Sweating through my shirt, wiping my brow, and staring in disbelief at my weather app wondering, “How could this be the 72☏ I know and love?” When a 72-degree day feels like a swampy armpit, I start to realize that everything I’ve ever thought I understood about weather, mainly temperature, is a lie. If you cannot afford an air conditioner, spending some time each day (during hot weather) in an air conditioned environment affords some protection. Individuals at risk should stay in the coolest available place, not necessarily indoors. Strenuous activities should be reduced, eliminated, or rescheduled to the coolest time of the day. If temperature rise again, repeat process. Remove clothing, use fans and air conditioners. Reduce body temperature with cold bath or sponging. Summon emergency medical assistance or get the victim to a hosiptal immediately. Heat stroke is a severe medical emergency. If vomiting continues, seek immediate medical attention.
